A Million Reasons

Every week, Grammarly https://app.grammarly.com/ sends me a progress report and encourages me to keep on writing. My current status is ‘Philosopher” and in October I managed to write 48,000 words. That’s the reason I’m not always active on WordPress, on any Social Media platform. I am, however, always touched when my followers like my posts or comments. Thank you for that.

As a writer, I’m familiar with the rejection process. When I submit I float on that cloud that maybe, just maybe, this is the submission that will be recognized. That glimmer of hope floats until that email arrives that holds the power to change everything.

There’s no other way to say it: It sucks. But it also recharges my determination. Social Media is a great way to help soften that blow, but it’s a balancing act that is hard to manage. Social Media and growing an audience is a full-time job. There is no other way around it.

So in the wake of another rejection letter, I decided to post some of my shorts on, Wattpad but as of January 6, 2021, decided to cancel my subscription. Wattpad and Vocal just aren’t for me, but look for me on https://literallystories2014.files.wordpress.com/2015/10/cropped-the-anthology.jpg, The Incident With The Knife will be published March 18, 2021. What remains a constant is that I am committed to writing fiction and being grateful for the kindness my social connections continue to bestow on me.

  1. Thank you for the tip Monika, I found the site interesting. Have been posting there for a long time? What is your take on the benefits of the site?

    1. It’s people like you, Peter, who reach out and take the time to like and comment that makes this a great forum. Most writers are often isolated because it’s part of the nature of the job. So even virtual friendships become meaningful. I only started posting on here earlier this year so I still have so much to learn to make my website more user-friendly. Thanks again.

      1. Aaah, your comments are extremely uplifting and on that note I shall put more effort into this practice__thank you Monika. How have you found Wattpad?

      2. Hi Peter, thanks for stopping by, as always a pleasure to hear from you. Wattpad, hmm? I’m completely stunned at how popular it is (80 million readers), and I’m still feeling my way around the platform to see where and if I can fit. (I should stand out as I’m probably the age of everyone’s grandmother.) But for this experiment I simply posted a few samples of my writing to see what sticks. I’m trying to find similar writers but have not had any success. Wattpad ranked my material as ‘literary’ in the style of Margaret Atwood (if only) so not sure how I can fit in among dragons, various fanfiction, Harry Styles and lovesick. But, my writing success is ultimately up to me and the important lesson is always about learning. Have a great day!

  2. Hello Monika. Grammarly slows my phone down a lot. I almost exclusively type with it. One day I will get an upgrade and be able to use it. Great job on writing all those words on October!🤠🔥
